At the old city you will find the recently restored Fort Oranje that overlooks the bay. It was from here that the flag incident took place. The museum is nearby and for a small fee you do not only have entrance but are also a member for life of the Historical foundation. The Government Guest house is nearby and after 300 years still houses the office of the Lt. Governor. The Hotel will furnish you with a map of the city and all it's historical sites. There are not so many shops on the Island but a grocery, pharmacist, post office and bank are available. Although the official language is Dutch, everyone on Statia speaks English.
